Celebrate good times, come on!

AT LAST!  I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! I was struggling to find places for small sets of like embellishments when I remembered that there is a whole section in my Scrap Rack where I used to store my cards and embossing folders. I have nearly finished the whole reorganization.
I can't wait to get back to crafting, and have made a commitment to clean up after each session. No excuses. Now my blog can resume showcasing crafted items instead of sad commentary on my lack of organization.

Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Into The Craftroom

As shown in the last post, I have been making good headway with my organizing project. I was so proud of myself and so relieved to have successfully tackled the dreaded chore of sorting papers. Before that, I had started organizing my smaller items and thought I was pretty much finished, but as I was going through the paper scraps bags I found even more embellishments and card pieces. I had designated a shoe box for the small embellishments and it was now so full pieces were falling out. I then decided I would need to reorganize them into more specific categories. such as by type and color. As I worked I began to see that I should resume my original system of using my Totally Tiffany Scrap Rack.

So now my work desk looks like the wreck of the Hesperus and I am, once again, feeling overwhelmed. In addition to the embellishments, I have been finding card parts from previously made card kits that do not have all of the pieces. So I must decide how best to sort them also. I will be so grateful when all of this is done so I can resume crafting.

I Finally Started Tackling The Hard Job

I was very pleased to find a meaningful way to sort my small items but decided it was time to tackle the hardest job of sorting my large paper scraps. My friend Launie helped me get started by sorting through a large pile of scraps the last time she visited. We used gallon size storage bags. I had originally bought cardboard storage boxes from Totally Tiffany, whose storage systems I love. When I moved my crafting to my sister's house that system fell by the wayside, so I needed to reinvent it. I had forgotten how easy it is to make decisions about what to keep and how to store it. I was able to get the bulk of my scraps sorted into the ROYGBIV files and put them under my desk instead of in the console they were put in when I brought everything back from my sister's. Now they will be close to me and easy to reach. I'm far from finished but feeling so much better about the path to finishing the organization,
If you aren't yet familiar with Totally Tiffany's system I highly recommend you google her and watch the videos of how she organizes.

More Cards While Organizing

As stated in an earlier post I have been following through with a new years resolution to get my craft room organized and reward myself with card making at the end of a daily session. So, one of my finds while sorting through the mass of paper scraps was a piece of digital paper that I had accidentally printed on sticker paper. I decided to cut it into four pieces and turn them into card embellishments. Two became card fronts and two became inside embellishment.

After additional cleaning, I found an embellishment that inspired me to make a card using layering frame dies. I liked it so much I carried it through to the inside as well.

After making these cards I brought home yet more crafting items which had been stored at my sister's house. The organizing continues!

HUGE CRICUT DESIGN SPACE CHANGE

I just finished watching a tutorial from Melody Lane on how to manage a huge change in design space. They have moved some things around and added several new techniques.
If you follow Melody Lane you REALLY need to watch her video.
I wanted to get this information out right away so I haven't had a chance to see if there are other tutorials available. If and when I find out more I will post again.

A Most Important Crafting Category !

In my recent post, I totally forgot about the, probably. most important category I created. It is for cards that I have received that I would like to recreate and samples of techniques that I have tried and am likely to forget about if I don't save.
Now, these are collected in an easy to find container that I can peruse for ideas when I need them rather than get sidetracked when I come across them while looking for something else.
I hope this is a helpful tip for other hoarders. I mean crafters, LOL

The Organizing Fairy Spirit Paid Me A Visit

As crafters you know that the organizing struggle is real. And since moving my craft space once again none of my previous organizing methods have worked. Or maybe I just haven't been good at using them. So as you can see from my recent posts I have made a commitment to get organized for the new year. Due to some painful foot problems I have not been as productive as I had hoped, but I saw a podiatrist who worked some magic on my foot and I am feeling much more inspired. Also I must give credit to my friend Launie who stopped by and spent an hour sorting my large scraps into ROYGBIV order.
The sad truth is though that I have a HUGH collection of smaller scraps and embellishments that overwhelmed my ability to think of an appropriate way to organize. So this is where the Organizing Fairy Spirit paid me a visit. Several years ago I hired a professional organizer to help me clean my basement. ( Shout Out to Organizer Jen) She taught me to use a system of three categories: Keep, Donate, Throw Away. The problem is that those categories don't quite work for my paper items. So, maybe while I was sleeping, the Organizing Fairy Spirit paid me a visit and suddenly I had the answer. I would grab the first handy collection, which was a shoebox, and let what I found inform me of the categories I would need. I collected every container I could find and then labeled them as their content became known instead of deciding the categories first. So, at the end of day one, I have three categories. Card Fronts; Started Cards that need to be finished; Embellishments.
The room still is a mess but, at last, I can see my way to the end. Which means that I will be more able to clean as I go. Or, at least, easily clean up after a crafting session.
I hope that this post will be an inspiration to those needing your own Organizing Fairy Spirit. Good Luck and let me know how you are doing.,
As always, thanks for visiting this blog.
